Thanks for stopping by. My name, Kat-I, (say "cateye') is a hold over from my costume design days.
I picked up the nom de guerre while working on my first film with Laurence Fishburne (dog sh*t) and Ryan Phillipe. After a stint working on big budget films, commercials and print ads, I let go of the "business" but kept the moniker.
On this blog, which I call my daily develophant, I'm going to keep it real. This is a" learn in public" record of my comic art self education and an untested vehicle to help me let go of my crippling perfectionism. It won't always be pretty. I have always wanted to be a cartoonist. I have stopped and started several times but I let perfectionism get the better of me. The same could be said for my stand up comedy forays.
Single panel cartooning is a perfect truple of journalism, comedy and art. I am committing myself fully to our threesome. I strive to post daily, and keep it fresh and sexy.
Learning in public is an idea I am borrowing from software coders I read this concept in the early days of Covid-19 and it stirred a sense of possibility (a new way of being) I had not previously considered. Frankly, a successful cancer battle did not motivate me to change but a newly empty nest and this pandemic will.
Some of the comic masters I study are Alison Bechdel, William Haefeli, Enki Bilal and Gary Larson.
Elephant and Egg is an homage of Dr. Seuss and a private joke I share with my new bride.
“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.” ― Martha Graham
